Grandma Lil’s Chocolate Drop Cookies
Makes about 4 dozen

I grew up eating these cookies. My mom didn’t bake often – but this is one cookie she did make, maybe because they were a favorite of my Dad’s. His mom made them when he and siblings were growing up. They were always a favorite of mine too. Cake-like and tender-I think they are the perfect cookie for any time of day. Enjoy.
Ingredients
2/3 cup butter, softened
1¼ cup sugar
2 eggs, room temperature
2 ½ cups flour
2 ½ tsp. baking powder
1 scant tsp. salt
6-6½ Tbsp. cocoa
About ½ cup milk (maybe a little less)
1 tsp. vanilla
Chopped nuts if desired
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time blending well after each egg. Mix dry ingredients together. Add to butter mixture alternately with milk, ending with the flour. Add vanilla and nuts if using.
Frosting
1 Tbsp. butter, melted, 1 Tbsp. cocoa, and 1-2 Tbsp. milk and powdered sugar. Mix butter, cocoa and 1 Tbsp milk in a small bowl. Add enough powdered sugar to make of smooth spreading consistency (add 2nd Tbsp of milk if needed). Using a spoon add a nickel sized amount on top of each cookie and spread using the back of your spoon.
